Rosalia Vila Tobella[2] (born 25 September 1992),[3] known mononymously as Rosalia (Spanish: [rosa'li.a], Catalan: [ruz@'li.@]),[4][5][6] is a Spanish singer. Born and raised in the suburbs of Barcelona her music has been described as being an "atypical pop singer" due to her genre-bending music styles. 9 years ago, at the age of 13, she fell in the love of Spanish folk music, and she studied musicology at Catalonia College of Music. She also performed at weddings and music bars. The project reinvented flamenco and mingled it with pop and hip-hop music. The singles "Malamente" and "Pienso en tu Mira" were a hit among the Spanish populace and won universal critical acclaim. Recognized as the winner of the Latin Grammy Award for Album of the Year, and included in Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time, El Mal Querer started the ascent of Rosalia into the world music scene. Rosalia's albums of 2019 "Con Altura" (13) and "Yo x Ti Tu x Mi" (12-13) were pioneers in urban music and achieved worldwide popularity. Her third album, Motomami (2022) she gave reggaeton an innovative approach, deviating slightly from the original flamenco vibe. The album caught the attention of the world with its two singles "La Fama" and "Saoko" and became the top-rated album of the year on Metacritic. Through her career, Rosalia has accumulated ten top singles in her native country, which is the highest number for an artist from the country. Two Grammy Awards, eleven Latin Grammy Awards (including 2 Album of the Year awards) and four MTV Video Music Awards and three UK Music Video Awards have been given to her. She also received two Premio Ruido Awards. In the year 2019 Billboard awarded her the Rising Star Award for "changing the style of popular music with her innovative flamenco-influenced pop",[18] and became the first Spanish-singing act in history to be nominated for the Best New Artist award at the Grammys Rosalia was born on 25 September 1992 in Sant Cugat del Valles and raised in Sant Esteve Sesrovires,[20][21][22] Baix Llobregat, Catalonia. She is the youngest of four children of Pilar Tobella, an entrepreneur who runs a small metalworking company. Jose Manuel Vila was her father. He was born in Cudillero (Asturias). They separated in the year 2019. Her older sister Pilar Vila she was born in 1989, is her stylist. Rosalia became interested in the performing arts as a child, particularly after she discovered the discography of Camaron de la Isla. She began her musical training at the Taller de Musics [es]. She completed a six-year program in the academy. She first began classes at the Raval school and later transferred to the Superior School of Music of Catalonia. She also independently worked as an independent singer at weddings and musical bars and was paid "a little over 80 euros or in exchange for dinner". Rosalia was in a position to meet a variety of underground Spanish musicians during this time period such as La Zowi and Yung Beef, Kaydy Case, Hinds Maria Escarmiento and Kaydy Cain.
